Dresden and Wodzińscy

After meeting parents in Karlsbad on his way back to Paris Chopin stops in Dresen. He visits the Wodzińscy family there.

Duke Józef Krasiński in his diary noted that Chopin "did not perform a concert in Dresden, but at the soiree organized by them he performed for us his compositions, improvised and fooled around – among that he also performed "Poland Is Not Yet Lost" that is the Dąbrowski's Mazurka and beautiful own variations on the theme. [...] He enchanted us during the whole evening, but the following day I was called to the Russian Embassy and asked: How could you stay in a home where patriotic, revolutionary songs were sang? I answered that they were not revolutionary at all, but ancient, they were not sang but Chopin performed variations on the theme of an old mazur. That I didn't know what he was going to perform, and at the end that I couldn't in a strange home order the musician what and how to improvise. I will never forget the answer of Richter [secretary of the embassy]: If you want to be a faithful subject of the Monarch you should have shown such a demagogue as Chopin to the gate!!!"

Krasiński did not receive permission for further stay, Wodzińscy were asked to leave Dresden.
