Chopin Blue Series

The Polish National Fryderyk Chopin Institute issues a new CD set with the most interesting Chopin interpretations of the recent Piano Competition held in Warsaw.

Every set contains 2 CDs in a blue cover. A set presents a portrait of one pianist participating in the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw. The selected recordings come exclusively from the competition (auditions, rehearsals and winners’ concerts), the sound material has been subject to montage correction.

So far the Blue series offers two albums. The first contains compositions by Fryderyk Chopin interpreted by Yulianna Avdeeva, winner of the Competition and the Krystian Zimerman prize for the best performance of Chopin’s Sonata. The CD contains among others Nocturnes in B minor Op. 62 and in C-sharp minor Op. 27, 4 Mazurkas from the Op. 30, Ballade in F minor Op. 52, Sonata in B-flat minor Op. 35 and the Piano Concerto in E minor Op. 11.

The second album presents Chopin music performed by Ingolf Wunder, the favorite of the Competition’s audience, winner of the 2nd prize ex equo and two special prizes: of the Warsaw Philharmonic for the best performance of the Piano Concerto in E minor Op. 11 and of the Rector of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw for the best performance of the Polonaise-Fantaisie in A-flat major Op. 61. The CDs, apart from the two prize-winning performances contain also Scherzo in E major Op. 54, 4 Mazurkas Op. 24 and Sonata in B minor Op. 58.

The Polish National Fryderyk Chopin Institute plans to issue two consecutive albums in January 2011 with performances by Daniił Trifonow and Lukas Geniušas. Two more albums with the  performances by Jewgienij Bożanow and François Dumont are to be issued in the beginning of February. Stanisław Leszczyński is the editor of the series.
