Chopin in his letter to Tytus Woyciechowski in Poturzyn quotes opinions by Józef Elsner concerning the Concerto in F minor: "Elsner praised the Concerto Adagio, he said it is new, but when it comes to the Rondo, I don’t want yet anybody’s verdict, because I am still not fully satisfied with it." At the same time Chopin starts to write etudes from the coming Op. 10: "I have done a large Exercice en forme [in terms of form], in my one way."

Robert Schumann to K. Montag
Robert Schumann to K. Montag: "I have just received new etudes by Chopin: however, they were written a long time ago. It is sad that for the seven years since he came to Paris he has done so little."

Fantaisie in F
Nohant. Chopin writes a letter to Julian Fontana: "Today I have completed the Fantaisie [in F minor] - the sky is beautiful and I am sad in my heart, but it's nothing. If it would be different, maybe my existence wouldn't be useful to anybody. Let's hide for after death."
