Family - favourite Mazurka and Malbruk
Mikołaj Chopin writes to his son: "… I am surprised at your delight at my playing the violin and your nephew Bobo beating the rhythm; don’t you know that this is a new air of the old days [Malborough s’en va-t-en guerre], the same that I used to play to you on the flue which you broke when I gave it to you to play?”. On the same day, Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa writes to her brother: “Your mazurka [in B-flat major Op. 7 No. 1], the one whose third part goes Bam bum bum (nota bene I think that it is a grand success here, in particular executed at the Rozmaitości theatre by an entire orchestra) was played the whole night though at a ball at the Zamoyskis and Bar., who heard it with his own ears there, says that they were extremely content to dance to it. What do you say at being profaned this way; as the mazurka is rather meant to be listened than danced to. At the Zmoyskis’ ball, when many ladies expressed desire to have the mazurka, Tymanowski took it from the orchestra and gave Klukowski to copy; it can be heard everywhere now, it’s favourite."
The same day Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa writes a letter to her brother: "From Papa’s letter you may gather that he is healthy and in good humour, it is enough to think of you to bring light to the forehead bored with children […]" More information: Malborough s'en va t'en guerre - YOUTUBE
