Chopin initiates the idea of home theatre, with his live participation. During this summer he is working on: Mazurkas Op. 50, Impromptu in G-flat major Op. 51, Ballade in F minor Op. 52, Polonaise in A-flat major Op. 53 ad Scherzo in E major Op. 54.

George Sand writes a letter to Pierre François Bocage
George Sand writes a letter to Pierre François Bocage: "Nohant has changed a lot since your stay when fun and laughter reigned. My coming fortieth birthday filled it with sobriety and one hundred thousand Franks of debt, which I finish paying back with hard work has driven off extravagance and hours of laziness. Moreover, the sad state of health of our friend has incited in our customs melancholy and maybe concentration."
