Pianos in London and Gutmann
London. Chopin writes a letter to Adolf Gutmann: "Finally I feel ground under my feet in this abyss called London. I began to breathe more easily only several days ago, because it’s been only several days that sun is shining.” And further: “Erard turns out to be a very kind man and he has given at my disposal one of his pianos. I have the Broadwood instrument, and another one -  Pleyel, in total – three pianos. But what for, if I have no time to play? I have myriads visits to pay and to repay, my days pass like lightning. […] I was proposed to perform in the Philharmonic; I’d rather decline. Finally, of course, when I perform for the queen, I will have to deliver musical morning in a private house for a limited number of guests! At least I would desire it to happen like this."
