Chopin about the future
Chopin writes a letter to Tytus Woyciechowski in Poturzyn: "I already have attacks stronger than usual. – I am still sitting – I don’t have enough strength to plan the day, I think that I am leaving to forget about home forever; I think that I am leaving to die – and how sad it must be to be dying somewhere else than where life has passed. How terrible it will be for me to see instead of my family a cold doctor or the servant at my deathbed. […] I haven’t tried the Concerto in [E minor] yet; however, by the Saint Nicolas [September 29] I will leave all my treasures and I will be in Vienna, condemned to everlasting sighing. […] My thoughts concerning the winter are that I will spend 2 months in Vienna and next I will go to Italy, to spend the winter in Milan." He concludes the letter in the atmosphere of nostalgia: "Today I have no conclusion for the letter, it is even less than nothing, because the end is already written above, it is due to the hour, it’s half past eleven and I am not dressed, sitting and writing. […] We are not always satisfied, maybe there are only several moments in life for happiness and why should we part with these illusions which cannot last long. – I believe social relations are as if the holiest thing on one side, but on the other I think that it is a devilish invention, and it would be better for people in the world not to know the idea of money, desserts, shoes, hats, beefsteaks, pancakes etc."
The planned departure to Vienna was not realized. Chopin left Warsaw on November 2, going to Vienna, where he arrived after three weeks, traveling through Kalisz, Wrocław, Dresden and Prague.
