Nohant and op 55 and 56
During the summer stay in Nohant Fryderyk Chopin travels around the neighborhood mounted on the donkey Margot. Next day he goes for a longer walk to Montgirray. George Sand writes in a letter to her children (June 13): "The house misses happiness and I feel very lonely here, even tough Chopin constantly talks about us (Maurice and Solange) and does everything to make my life better […] swallows are making nests in the dining room windows, you may infer from this that the house is quiet, they are not scared of anybody..” Only Paulina’s Viardot daughter brings in some life "she dances, laughs and chatters, she talks with Chopin in Polish, with Françoise in Beriston, and with Pistolet in Sanskrit." Several days later (June 19) she adds: "I am here alone with Chopin […] I am getting wet in rain each time I try to leave the house…" and further: "Chopin has met his piano again, I have made traditional marmalade."
