Słowacki about Chopin
Paris. Juliusz Słowacki writes a letter to his mother in Krzemieniec: "At the dinner, Cezary was running and inviting us to a soiree of artists at his place, it was an evening only for men. Szopen, famous pianist, was performing. We were talking various poetry, in a word, the time was well spent. […] Several days afterwards, at Straszewicz’s, there was another such soiree – but, as usual, after long preparation no outcome appears, so also at this evening we were boring to death from 10.00 pm. to 2.00 am. – at the end, however, Szopen got drunk and he improvised beautiful things on the piano."
Juliusz Słowacki met Chopin probably in Warsaw in 1829. At that time he lived in the Paca Palace at the Miodowa Street in Warsaw, neighbouring the Chopin’s apartment, he had similar circle of friends writers and artists, he visited the same salons among others at Teresa Kicka, he visited the same bookstores and cafés. However, according to many sources Chopin and Słowacki didn’t like each other. They didn’t like each other neither in Warsaw nor in Paris, where they met from time to time.
