Mendelssohn asks for a composition for his wife
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in his letter asks Fryderyk for a "certain favour. Could you be so kind, as my old friend, to write several bars of music, and sign it at the bottom that you have written them for my wife (Cecylia M. B.) and send it to me? When we met last time in Frankfurt, I was engaged; since then each time I want to do something very nice for my wife, I have to perform something composed by you; she has a special liking to everything you write. It is yet again one more reason (despite the fact that I have had enough reasons since I have met you) to always be au courant with what you are composing and to pay much more attention to you and your works, maybe even more attention that you yourself pay to your compositions; this is the explanation justifying my hope that you would agree to do this act of grace I am asking for and forgive me that I am yet one more stalker who won’t leave you in peace. Always yours Feliks Mendelssohn-Bartholdy."
On the 8th of October, 1845, Chopin sent to Cecylia Mendelssohn-Bartholdy a handwritten Mazurka in A-flat major Op. 59. More information:
