Duszniki
Reposing in Duszniki since 11 September, Chopin is drinking "whey and the local waters", making tentative hiking trips "to the mountains which surround Reinertz [Duszniki], often enchanted by the view of the local valleys", listening to "crummy wind music" which "slowly plays in the background for the strolling Kurgäste."
Fryderyk Chopin spent the summer of 1826 in Duszniki (at that time called Reinertz). He was there at a health treatment together with his mother and sisters – Emilia and Ludwika. They stayed in the guest house "Bürglas House" (at present at its place there is the Holiday House "Nocturne" at 6 Zielona Street). Apart from everyday walks in the park and drinking water, Fryderyk travelled on foot to local mountains: during one of such trips he reached the non-existent today hermit’s house (on the Einsiedelei mountain). Pauline Viardot
20-year-old Pauline Viardot–Garcia arrives to Nohant with her husband Ludwig for two weeks. She sings both a bel canto repertoire and traditional Spanish songs. She takes lessons from Chopin too and he listens to her in elation. Three years later Heinrich Heine thus described Ms Viardot’s singing: "She is no nightingale as it possesses merely the talent of its species […] she is no rose either, as she is ugly. […] She rather brings to mind the terrifying abundance of exotic wilderness, when in some moments of her passionate singing, she opens her enormous mouth excessively, flashing the white of her teeth, and laughs producing awfully sweet and lovely sparkles…" (1 May 1844).
