Sand's dressmaker

Chopin in "white tie" performs in the royal court in Tuileries. According to George Sand "he is not completely satisfied". Ludwik Filip gives him an elegant service with dedication, which Chopin will pass to his family.

Chopin performed several times for the Royal family: on the 16th of February, 1835, on the 19th of October, 1839, in the non existent today palace Saint-Cloud (together with Ignacy Moscheles) and again in the Tuileries Palace: in April and in December 1841, and for more close group of friends, in February 1841. Service from Louis XIV of France

Paris, Chopin in his letter to George Sand in Nohant: "How are You? I have just received a very nice letter from You. Here it is snowing so much, that it is a relief for me that You are not on your way and I feel guilty that maybe I have encouraged You to travel by post stagecoach in such a weather. (...) The most important is that You do not travel in such a weather, You would suffer tremendously. Jan put your flowers in the kitchen. All your garden is covered by snow and it looks like made of sugar, it reminds of a swan, stoats, cottage cheese with white cream, Solange's hands and Maurice's teeth. I have made stove fitters come because yesterday I was afraid of putting more fire without them. Your dress is made of black silk, of the best quality. I have chosen it personally, according to your instruction. The dressmaker took it with all your advice. She decided, that the material is very beautiful, modest, but in good taste. I think that you will be satisfied with it. The dressmaker seemed a very intelligent woman to me. The material was chosen from among ten others, it costs nine Franks per meter, so it is the best quality, and it will be, I guess, perfect; the dressmaker who is motivated to do her job as best as possible, has foreseen everything."
