Chopin in a letter to Jan Białobłocki: "I have become so fat and lazy that in a word I do not want to do anything, really anything. My life, at this occasion I inform you that I do not attend the Lyceum. It would be irrational to be forced to sit 6 hours a day, when German and German-Polish doctors ordered me to walk as much as possible; it would be stupid to listen to the same thing for the second time if during this year it is possible to learn something else. That is why I attend Elsner at counterpoint strict 6 hours a week, I listen to Brodziński, Bentkowski and others enjoying any relation with music. I go to sleep at 9.00 pm. All teas, small balls, soirees are cut down. I drink emetic water ordered by Malcz and I eat oats pudding only as if I were a horse. However, the air here is not as beneficial for me as that in Reinertz. They sing for me that maybe next year I will, at least for the ceremony, repeat the laubrunn, but it is far from that and it is allegedly better to go to Paris than cross the Czech border. Bardziński leaves this very year, and me… in 50 years maybe. Let God allow this."
Chopin after finishing the Warsaw Lyceum, as the "one year" – according to regulations – in the 6th grade was not admitted to "maturitas", necessary for the University Studies. However, it was not required in the Main School of Music (pl. Szkoła Główna Muzyki) headed by Józef Elsner, where he enrolled in September. This school was a department of the Fine Arts at the Warsaw University.  More information:

Scotland spots
Chopin in a letter to Marie de Rozières about his stay in Scotland: "I am suffocating more than a month ago in this beautiful country of Walter Scott. […] The town I am living in right now is called Keir w Perth-Shire, next to Stirling. Tomorrow I am going to Edinburgh, where I will stay several days; I may even perform there. But please, do not imagine that it is for me anything more than a thing to do and irritation and despondency; however, I meet here many people who, apparently, like music and they keep pestering me to perform, and as a polite person, I do perform, each time regretting it anew and promising myself that I will not be cheated into playing again… If the weather is nice, I would stay here in October, because I have invitations which I couldn’t accept so far, and life in rich residences is truly interesting." And he adds about the local aristocracy: "Make-ups, diamonds, spots on noses, the prettiest hair and the best shapes, creatures devilishly beautiful and devils deprived of beauty. The last category is the most popular. Today all this society goes to Edinburgh for the Caledonian Rout. This is a week-long races, fairs, balls, etc. It belongs to fashion here, hunting clubs organize fairs every year. Aristocrats from all the country arrive."
