Solagne's wedding
Solange Dudevant (daughter of George Sand) and August Clésinger’s wedding takes place in Nohant. George Sand informed Chopin about the planned wedding already on May 1st. Chopin was against Clésinger’s proposal, however, on May 15, he wrote to Sand: "Nobody from among your friends does not wish in more sincere manner happiness for your child. Please, tell it to her from me." And several days later he writes to Solange: "You are at the peak of your happiness – I would like to see you always like that. I wish you from all my soul enduring prosperity." Already after the wedding, in his letter on June 8 written to his family, he expressed a completely different opinion: "When it comes to Sola’s wedding, it took place in the countryside, during time when I was weak, I am honestly not angry with this, because I don’t know what I would say to all this. – He, the groom, devil knows from what family. […] Madame S has written to me from the countryside about him: il est hardi, lettre, actif et ambiteux – they are supposed to be his qualities! It was a moment of folly, which didn’t last a month and there was nobody to pour cold water."
