Sonata for cello Op. 65 and Ash Wednesday
Chopin completes the Sonata in G minor for cello Op. 65, commenced in 1845. In his letter to Wojciech Grzymała he writes: "Please, do come today evening at about 8.00 pm. Apart from the usual guests, there will be Arago and Delacroix. I will perform in a duo with Franchomme. […] Today is the Ash Wednesday. Come at least for penance, for having spent a sad carnival."

Fryderyk Chopin in a letter to Solange Clésinger
Paris. Fryderyk Chopin writes a letter to Solange Clésinger, daughter of George Sand: "Since I have received your letter, I have spent several days in bed due to an awful flu and I have delivered a concert in the Pleyer salon. During this time I have written about thirty pages to you, I even completed one letter, when last week your husband visited me and brought me some news about you. […] I would like to ask you, please, in your spare moments, write to me several words with a pencil, I will not delay my answer anymore, now, when the flu and the concert are over. […] I am finishing my letter because lessons start. It is needless to assure you how unhappy I feel not being able to write to you all the time and with ease."
