Shoes and carrot
Warsaw, Chopin writes a letter to Jan Białobłocki: "When it comes to news […] private, I can only tell you […] that I have a cabinet for scores; and at the end, that I have holes in my shoes and that is why I walk in boots. Somebody would think I set off to Bielany, like our guardian who has just come to ask for Mother’s permission […] and Bielany… [illegible] will be full of people this year. My Botanic garden, this old alias behind the palace, Commission decided to order beautifully. Now, there is neither carrot, which we used to consume at the water, nor sandwiches, nor bowers, lettuce, cabbage, weird smells, but only flowerbeds a la manière anglaise."

Chopin keeps postponing and putting off his departure to Vienna
Chopin keeps postponing and putting off his departure to Vienna. He writes to Tytus Woyciechowski: "What will happen with my travel, I don’t know now. I think that instead of getting travel abroad this year, I will get ague, and that will be the end. I will be sitting here in June, I will be sitting here in July, I will not want to set off at all for, as you know for sure, for nothing apart from the heat; the Italian opera in Vienna, only in September […] starts, so there is no hurry, especially that the Rondo for the new concert is not completed – and I need the afflatus for this, I’m not even in a hurry with this, because, having the first Allegro, I don’t care about the rest." Next he interprets his own Romance form the concerto in E minor "Adagio for the new concerto is in E major. It is not to be powerful, it is more romance-like, calm, melancholic, it should make the impression of nice sight of a place where thousand beloved reminiscences and thoughts come to mind. – It is sort of wondering in the beautiful springtime, but at the moonlight. That is why I accompany it with mutes, that is violins muffled with type of combs which, clipping the strings give them some new, silver tone. Maybe it is wrong, but why should we be ashamed to write wrong things despite our knowledge – only the result will prove the mistake. Here you will surely notice my disposition to do wrong things despite the will. Yes, just like despite my will something has entered into my head through my eyes and I like to caress it, maybe most wrongly."

Chopin performs in salons
During his stay in England, Chopin performs in the salon of the duchess Sutherland in Stafford House, where the queen Victoria is present together with her husband Albert and other prominent peoples. Apart from own mazurkas and waltzes, with Jules Bénedict he performs variations in G minor for two pianos by Mozart. Three singers participate in the concert: Luigi Lablache, Antoni Tamburini and Giuseppe Mario.
