Niemcewicz and Kniazewicz
Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz notes in his diary: "Corpus Christi as usual […] Dinner at general Otton Kniaziewicz, with Mickiewicz and Chopin, one of the first pianists in Europe, happy, joking, able to imitate everybody, he made us laugh."
General Karol Otton Kniaziewicz (1762-1842) – participant in the Kościuszko uprising and Napoleonic wars. He settled in Dresden, where in 1830 Fryderyk Chopin met him in the salon of Marianna Pruszakowa. The general said to Chopin on that occasion: "I haven’t met a pianist who would impress me in such a nice way." (Chopin letter to his family on November 21, 1830). On emigration in Paris he cooperated with Duke Adam J. Czartoryski.
