Apartment in Paris
Chopin is already in Paris where he came from Stuttgart. He will live on the fifth floor of the tenement house at the Boulevard Poissonière 27. In his letter to Norbert Kumelski (November 18) he writes: "You wouldn't believe how nice my apartment is, I have a room with pretty mahogany furniture, with windows to Boulevards through which I can see Paris from Montmartre to Pantheon and all this beautiful world; many people are envious of this view from my window, but nobody envies me the staircase."

At present, above the door of the house there is a memory plaque with the inscription "Frédéric Chopin habita cette maison 1831-1832" (en. "Fryderyk Chopin lived in this house during 1831-1832") The memory plaque designed by the architect Henri Delaage was founded on the initiative of l’Association Amicale de l’Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. It was unveiled on May, 29, 1961.

Pâté

Chopin second summer in Nohant. He has lost his bet and he asks Julian Fontana to send him from Paris the Strasbourg pie: "I have bet my Strasbourg pie and I have lost it... I am sending 50 franks. Please, go to Chevet in Palais Royal and buy one Strasbourg pie for 30 franks. It should be big. They are sent to him from Strasbourg in round wooden boxes. Please, address it to me and send it in a stagecoach as fast as possible. In case 30 franks is enough only for a small pâté, pay 35 or 40. But let it be filling. I am angry that for a pâté so much money goes, especially when they are needed somewhere else."

He uses the opportunity to ask about a new apartment in Paris: "Please, describe for me the apartment on the first floor with the number and details: is there a staircase? Maybe the entrance is by the stable? Is mounting the staircase tiresome? Is the lieu [toiled] on the way? Is it high? Are there signs of smoke? Is it dark? Etc. I would like to live somewhere at Montblanc or at Mathurins, or at the boulevard by Chaussee d'Antin".
