Chopin like a Jew
Chopin writes a letter to his family in Warsaw- Kuryer Szafarski (September 3): "Mr. Jan Pinchon was performing the Jew [Mazurka in A minor from Op. 17 No. 4 or from Op. 7 No. 2] when Mr Dziewanowski, having called for a Jew, asked him for his opinion about the Jewish virtuoso". The opinion was favourable: "If Mr. Pinchon were to perform at a Jewish wedding party, he would earn at least ten thalers. […] such a comment encouraged Mr. Pinchon to practising as much as possible this type of music and, who knows, maybe with time he will dedicate his efforts completely to this lucrative harmony."
Memories by Kazimierz W. Wójcicki comprise a similar report from other meeting: "When Jews came to a neighbouring court in Oborowo to purchase cereals, Fryderyk, having called for them, performed majufes. His performance elicited so much ardour among the merchants, that not only did they jump merrily and danced, but they kept asking the landlord to allow this busker to perform at the coming wedding party: "because he performs as he was a born Jew"." During his holiday in 1824, in Szafarnia, Chopin sends to his family various information and observations in the form of a newspaper "Kuryer Szafarski", based on "Kuryer Warszawski". Chopin signed the news with various code names such as Pichon, Jakub Chopin, Mokołajek. "Kuryer Szafarski" was published on August 16, 19, 24, 27 and 31, and on the 3rd of September 1824. George Sand from Nohant to Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa
George Sand from Nohant to Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa: "I have learnt that you are in Paris. […] I will finally have true news about Fryderyk from you. Some write to me that he is much more ill than usually, others that he is only weak and suffering just like I have always seen him. […] Your memories about me have apparently been stained in you heart, but I believe I don’t deserve all that I have suffered".
