Maria Wodzińska after Dresden
After the meeting with the Wodzińscy family Chopin departs from Dresden towards Leipzig. Maria Wodzińska writes a letter to Chopin: "On Saturday, when You left us, everybody was sad, with eyes brimming with tears in this salon where a few minutes ago You belonged to our group. […] My mother with tears remembered every now and then some detail from the visit of her "fourth son Fryderyk". […] You were the topic of every talk. Feliks kept asking me for the Waltz [in A-flat major Op. 69 No. 1] (the last thing we have received and heard performed by You). It was a pleasure – they listened and I played the piano, because it reminded us of the brother who has just left us." She asks about compositions: "If I were the sun in the sky, I would shine only for You" I have received this song these days, but I have no courage to sing it, because it is Yours and I don’t want to change it completely, just like the Warrior. We do not cease to regret that Your surname is not Chopiński or that You don’t have any other sign that You are Polish." She concludes: "Stay with God (as simple as that). A friend from childhood does not ask for empty words."
